How do I fix a bank connection?
Refresh a Plaid connection when transactions stop syncing or Finance AI says an account needs attention.
Quick answer
Open Net Worth, find Connected Accounts, then use the Fix login, Fix sync, or Manage button above that institution's account list. Plaid will ask you to sign in again if the institution requires it.
Steps
- 1Open Finance AI on your iPhone.
- 2Go to Net Worth.
- 3Find the Connected Accounts section.
- 4Look for any connection marked Needs attention, or use Manage above an existing connection's account list to update selected accounts.
- 5Tap Fix login, Fix sync, or Manage and complete the Plaid flow.
- 6Return to Finance AI and wait for the refresh to finish.
Why this happens
Banks can invalidate Plaid connections after password changes, security reviews, multi-factor authentication changes, bank-side OAuth updates, or when access is revoked from the bank or Plaid dashboard.
Finance AI may also ask for a refresh if Plaid rejects an old transaction-sync cursor after a connection is replaced. When that happens, Finance AI resets the cursor and pulls transactions again.
What changes after fixing it
Finance AI refreshes balances and transactions for that institution. Spending charts, cash-flow charts, categorization, widgets, and weekly insights update after the missing transactions sync and are categorized.
If the bank requires a fresh login, Finance AI cannot receive new transactions from that institution until the Plaid repair flow succeeds.
- A top-of-screen warning appears when any connected institution has a sync issue.
- You can dismiss the warning, and it will return if a new connection issue appears.
- The Connected Accounts section keeps showing a highlighted Fix login or Fix sync action above that institution's accounts until it syncs successfully.
- If Finance AI shows Fix sync, Plaid account access may need review even if the bank login itself is not failing.
- Use Manage instead of connecting the same bank again when you want to refresh permissions or add accounts to an existing Plaid connection.
- Finance AI keeps the app unlock state steady while Plaid is open so the repair can finish after you return.
- If Plaid changes an account identifier after a repair, Finance AI matches the rotated account back to the existing row when the account identity is unique, preserving prior transaction categorization.
- Plaid-connected account rows open account details; they do not delete synced transactions or categorization work.
